The weavers

Our Vision

Over my twelve years working in the commercial textile industry in India, I saw how 'lowest cost' was prioritised over longevity. How machines trumped hands, and how consumers shunned price tags that barely even honoured the hours spent to create the product.

So, my mission as the founder of Parijat was to provide a platform to showcase the very best of Indian textile artistry from the length and breadth of the nation, and to provide our artisans with much deserved visibility and opportunity.

Over the centuries, handloom weaving in India has reached a level of unparalleled excellence. Generation after generation carried the expertise of their forefathers forward, proudly upholding their position as weavers within their communities. However, in the face of fast fashion and machine weaving, the handloom industry is increasingly under threat.

In the short term, livelihoods are at stake. In the long term, the loss of an art form. My hope is to provide the dignity and respect that will in turn keep these crafts alive.
